First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Iraq, Hakim Al-Zamili, called on Turkey to release more water to Iraq, noting that the strength of Iraq enhances the security and prosperity of neighboring countries and the region. Al-Zamili met with the Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Ali Reza Gunay, to discuss outstanding issues and areas of mutual interest. Al-Zamili reaffirmed that the strength of Iraq will improve the security and prosperity of neighboring countries and the entire region. He added that the House of Representatives is determined to amend laws that facilitate the entry, exit, and residence of investors in Iraq.
As part of this effort, Al-Zamili stressed the importance of consolidating security cooperation and organizing the water issues in a manner that preserves common interests, respects sovereignty, and consolidates security and stability between the two neighboring countries. The Turkish ambassador expressed Ankara’s keenness to launch programs to support the private sector to provide job opportunities for Iraqi youth, also expressing Ankara’s interest in establishing bilateral relations at all levels, including at the parliamentary level.
